Walk into Irene's around 3 PM on a weekday and you'll find the kind of bar that makes you cancel your evening plans. The space on West 6th is bright and unfussy, with good bones and the sort of design choices that tell you somebody cared without overthinking it.
Happy hour runs Monday through Friday, 3 to 6 PM, and the prices are almost aggressive: $3 draft beers, $4 wells, and $5 frozen drinks and wine. They throw in free popcorn too, which sounds like a small thing until you're three rounds deep and realize it's kept you from ordering dinner. The $6 snack menu is legitimately good, not an afterthought.
The crowd is a real mix. Industry people, neighborhood regulars, folks killing time before dinner somewhere else (though half of them end up staying). Irene's happy hour on West 6th has that low-key pull where you go once and then it becomes your default suggestion. The bartenders are solid, the vibe stays relaxed even when it fills up, and nobody's trying too hard. That's the whole point.
