All-day Tuesday happy hour at a legit izakaya is the kind of thing you keep to yourself. Fukumoto runs theirs Monday through Friday from 5 to 6:30pm, then throws the doors open on Tuesdays with happy hour pricing all night: $2 off every drink in the house plus discounted snacks, yakitori, and select sushi.
The yakitori is the move. Charcoal-grilled skewers, a cold Japanese beer marked down $2, and a couple of discounted rolls make a real dinner out of what most places treat as a snacking window. The sake list is deep enough to wander, and the discount applies there too.
Fukumoto sits on Medina Street in East Austin, a few blocks off the East 6th strip, and the crowd is mostly people who chose it on purpose. Tuesday nights fill with regulars who figured out the math a long time ago. Go on a weekday at 5 if you want quiet, or Tuesday at 7 if you want the full room. Either way, order more skewers than you think you need.
